Timeless Emotions – “Artimitia” by Onyrico

scent notes 26

“Artimitia” has become a classic by now. It is easy to obtain online and the creators of the perfume are not only continuing their creativity, they seem to stick to their roots and grow their brands carefully.

No other scent than “Artimitia” captures the sweet freshness of ginger with a few slightly bitter notes on a gourmand background as well as this one. There are mandarins and ginger in abundance when the perfume is sprayed on the skin. Ginger makes the perfume special, not many brands use the ingredient in its entirety . Ginger can refine scents, as it refines food through its unique freshness and spiciness, if the meal is not already drowned in other, heavier spices.

Ginger brings a sparkling lightness through its smell and taste. The combination with tangerine in the fragrance is lovely. It is the first and main accord everyone will remember when smelling the perfume. The nose behind the scent, Maurizio Cerizza, combined various forms of ginger for “Artimitia”. Fresh ginger, ginger flowers and candy ginger. The taste of candy ginger sums up quite well what I am smelling the whole time through.

According to the brand Onyrico’s website (to be found under its parent company’s online presence “Niche&Co – Parfum d’Elite”) the following scent notes do also feature prominently: orange flower, champaca, candy sugar, amber, vanilla, white musk and woody notes.

They give a friendly and harmonious background to the more prominent scent notes of tangerine and ginger. The perfume gives the image of a bright sunny day, filled with innocent pleasures. Like of a group of friends having a picnic at the beach or a lake and just enjoying life for the day. All of them know that the next day they will have to work again. It is not the careless scent of rich young VIP’s who life from one day to the next, but a scent with more substance, with an underlying seriousness.

The colour of the perfume is a sparkling, bright orange, with light rose touches.

Giorgio Biella and Emilia Arminda Chinigo founded Onyrico’s mother company, Niche&Co – Parfum d’Elite in 2013 in Switzerland. Both had done a lot of other things in their life’s before, but finally they made the step into perfumery together. It is unbelievable that both had not much experience in the perfume business before they brought Onyrico to the market – their creations were near perfect from the beginning. Onyrico was the first brand of the business, and Emilia Arminda Chinigo worked on it together with Stefania Vacca and two famous “noses”: Maurizio Cerizza of Milan based company CFF and Luca Maffei.

The founders of the brand were inspired by the rich Italian tradition of art and history, of famous individuals who left their mark forever. I must be careful here – the description of the motivation in various online shops that sell the Onyrico perfumes, probably created by the marketing team of Niche&Co themselves, become exaggerated and to my ears – weird. Even more so the videos on the website for the two other perfume brands Giorgio Biella and Emilia Arminda Chinigo created: Anima Mundi and Cigno Nero Milano. Check the site out for yourself, if you want to form an opinion.

Emilia Arminda Chinigo and Giorgio Biella translated Onyrico as “land of dreams” and they channelled their inspiration into wonderful scents! The subtitle of the brand Onyrico is “timeless emotions”.

“Artimitia”, created in 2018, is dedicated to Artimisia Gentileschi, one of the very few female baroque painters of the 17th century. She must have been a very strong woman; her life story is one of struggle and survival and winning. Artimisia’s talent and background from a painter’s family was the minimum to get her started – how many other talented daughters of painters failed to get anywhere? She made her way without being a rebel, but stood true to herself. Artimisia gave the impression of lifelong learning and growth, at least that is what I can draw from her life’s story without being an expert. The power Artimisia Gentileschi  wielded later in life, as a member of painter’s associations etc, became quite natural to her. She is a worthy model for the perfume “Artimitia”.

Reading comments on platforms like Fragrantica and Parfumo many people are somewhat irritated by the combination of gourmand notes and freshness in the perfume. To me it makes the scent unique.

Whilst other gourmand perfumes are cozy and warm, this one tells more of a real-life story, of a good character at the base, but also of suffering and ambition and overall, of happiness.

Maurizio Cerizza, Stefania Vacca and Emilia Arminda Chinigo have done a really good job to bring the woman Artimisia back to life through the perfume “Artimitia”. Suffering, ambition, happiness – timeless emotions indeed.
